What is prophecy?

About the Prophetic

A prophet is simply a voice – an echo from the future. A unique reverberation of an ancient manuscript, they are the official mouthpieces of God's kingdom, carrying declarations and messages from Him.

Glimpses of God's Plan

The message delivered by a prophet is called prophecy. Often, prophets catch glimpses of God’s plans and intentions without fully understanding everything they “see.” They perceive signs pointing towards fulfillment that may seem far-fetched or impossible to others.

Prophecy is like puzzle pieces that make up an entire picture we may not see all at once. We hear in part and we see in part. (2 Peter 1:10-12)

For example, Isaiah prophesied about the coming Messiah, but it was John the Baptist who recognized Him and proclaimed, “Behold the Lamb of God,” identifying the One foretold by earlier prophets.

Prophets: Then & Now

In Biblical Times

Prophets often acted out prophetic parables to demonstrate His word, remaining faithful even when misunderstood or persecuted. They illustrated God's message through powerful symbolic acts:

  • Jeremiah smashed a clay jar to symbolize Judah's destruction.
  • Isaiah walked barefoot for three years as a sign of coming captivity.
  • Ezekiel lay on his side for 390 days to represent an impending siege.

In Modern Times

A modern-day prophet is gifted primarily to equip others with spiritual perception and reveal the secrets of God through words, creative acts, or intercession. They carry a mantle to:

  • Reveal God's heart for today.
  • Awaken the destiny in His people.
  • Activate the purposes of God.
  • Declare Heaven's agenda with hope.

The Ultimate Purpose

A prophet is not a mere prognosticator, but one inspired by the Holy Spirit to deliver a message for a specific purpose. Their ultimate purpose is always to turn people’s hearts back to the Lord God, aligning individuals, families, and nations with Heaven’s blueprint.

In the end, a prophet is simply a humble vessel chosen by God to make known His heart to His people, so that they may turn from their ways and receive His blessings upon their lives.
